Many people still talk about and ask me so many questions about The Blue Potato and why we decided to close, so here is a little insight.

The Blue Potato, started it’s short life as a dream of making that something a little bit special in Calcutta, breaking the formal traditions of European cuisine, adopting Asian influences. Together with a modern culinary approach, while retaining all the trappings of the classic small fine dining room ambience of Europe's days gone by. A light, refreshing and friendly way to embrace a passion great food, with a simple, chic, sophisticated metropolitan atmosphere

On entering, the porch with its subtle lighting, pebbles and wooden beams, glass slits in the frontage with candles in the windows, giving a warm glowing feel to the façade. The interiors concentrated on simple light colours - grey, white, light blue - and the natural look and colour of Burmese teak. Photographic art lined the walls and in the warm romantic glow of candlelight, against crisp linen table cloths and a flicker in the beautiful glass wear, the moody sounds of jazz added just the right finishing touch.

The Blue Potato was open for Dinner, Tuesday to Sunday and stayed closed on Mondays. To keep a little romanticism and also to keep ourselves in the niche where we wanted to be, with absolutely no children allowed, (that raised a few eyebrows and I had many arguments as to why this was but for most, it was a breath of fresh air!).

The Blue potato opened on the 26th of December 2006 and sadly, for me at least and I know for many others, closed it’s doors in September 2008, For the only reason, we would never have been able to get an alcohol licence in the location we were, which meant that my dream of a great Restaurant, serving Great food, with great wine pairings would never be complete. The hairs on the back of my head still stand up when I think of what we created and I’m sure someday, The Blue Potato will fruit again!
